This class is held at our Potrero Hill Studio Throwing Large Mondays @ 6:30-9PM January 6th-February 10th (Intermediate) Class Description: This exciting course takes potters on a journey through creating larger-than-life forms, focusing on advanced techniques to achieve impressive height, width, and refined finishes. Starting with the basics of handling 5-6 lbs of clay, students will learn to throw tall vessels, expand into wide bowls and platters, and experiment with stacking and coiling for added height. Each week introduces essential skills, from surface design to glazing, with ample hands-on practice. By the end, students will walk away with bold, large-scale ceramics showcasing their growth in scale, form, and finish. Perfect for those ready to elevate their craft! - 50 lbs of clay - 6-weeks of 2.5 hours of instruction - Unlimited use of the studio during open studio hours - Firing fees - Glazes Week 1: Throwing Big for Height Overview: Students will learn to throw larger amounts of clay. Demo: 5/6lb bottle demo, Wedging large amounts of clay, Coning, Test Tile Demo Week 2: Throwing Big for Width Overview: Students will explore ways to throw large wide bowls & platters Demo: 5/6 lb bowl/platter Week 3: Stacked Forms & Coiled Forms Overview: Students will learn to achieve height through stacking & adding coils Demo: Stacking cylinders Week 4: Surface Design Overview Overview: Students will begin to learn trimming and glazing techniques for larger vessels LAST CLASS to make new work; all work must be ready for trimming and finishing by next class.* Week 5: “Trimfest” and Spray Booth Overview: LAST DAY FOR WETWORK*- Students will finish up all wet work to be ready by the end of class for bisque firing. Colored slip, sgraffito, and other demos will be covered as necessary. Week 6: Glazing Overview: All work must be glazed for final firing by the end of class*. DOUBLE CHECK all work to make sure there is NO GLAZE on the bottoms. Note: All students are required to clean all work areas used 15 minutes before the class ends. *Students who are signed up for another class in the next session may start new work ONLY IF all current work is finished.

Cancellation Policy
Fees & class schedule: Class fees cover instructed class time (as listed in specific class schedule), use of tools and equipment, open studio hours, studio glazes and firing up to 25 lbs of clay. Additional work may be fired for a fee. Pottery class fees include 25 lbs of clay + wood classes include all lumber Classes are subject to change if minimum student quota isn't met (7 students). Class switches will only be available 1 week prior to the commencement of classes and based on the capacity of classes at time of request. Attendance: It is mandatory for all students who are new to the studio attend the first week of classes. No “make-up” classes are given but you're more than welcome to drop-in on another session if there is an opening or absence. For Adult classes, Kids must be 14-years old or older Personal belongings: Any items left behind 30-days after last class may be discarded without notice. Refund policy: Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Refund or Credit (minus $20 processing fee) if a request for refund is received TWO WEEKS and only two weeks before the start of a class. Credit (no refund) with less the 48 hour notice ONLY if your spot can be filled. No refunds or credits after attending 1st class. Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, minor illnesses or vacations will not be credited for future classes. One-Time class registrations such as Drop-In Clay or Friday Night Clay are considered final ONE WEEK before start of class. Open studio hours for students: Monday- Thursday: 10AM-6PM Friday & Saturday: 10AM-9PM Sunday 10AM-7:30PM (Hours subjected to change upon five days' notice)
