Class Information
We offer many different types of classes at our SoMa woodshop. Our instructors are well versed in woodworking to be able to teach woodworkers of all skill levels. See below for more information on the different kinds of classes offered.
Try Day Classes
Our Try Day classes are 1 time Friday night classes. Our most popular Try Day is our Serving Board Try Day where students make their own charcuterie board in 2 hours and 45 minutes. These classes are meant to serve as a taster class for students who want to dip their toes into woodworking before diving all the way in.
6 Week Beginner Machine Classes
Our 6 Week Beginner Machine classes are classes that require no previous knowledge of a woodshop. These classes aim to teach students the basics of milling wood, using the table saw, basic glue ups, and basic wood joinery. They meet once a week for six weeks and teach students basic skills through the construction of one project such as a serving tray or 3 boxes.
6 Week Intermediate Machine Classes
Our 6 Week Intermediate Machine classes are classes that require some knowledge of woodworking, either taught in our beginner classes or from previous woodshop experience. These classes meet once a week for six weeks and tend to focus on larger projects such as side tables.
6 Week Beginner Turning Classes
Our 6 Week Beginner Turning classes are classes that require no previous knowledge of a wood lathe. These classes aim to teach students the basics of woodturning. They meet once a week for six weeks and teach students basic skills through the process of creating projects using either the Bowl or Spindle style of woodturning.
6 Week Intermediate Turning Classes
Our 6 Week Intermediate Turning classes are classes that require some knowledge of woodturning, either taught in our beginner classes or from previous woodshop experience. These classes meet once a week for six weeks and tend to focus on teaching students how to mill their own turning blanks to deepen their woodturning and woodshop skills.
